Tahir Mahmood Akthar
Professor in Anaesthesia and Critical Care medicine

Dr Akhtar is a consultant in Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at the Mid and South Essex University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is the Fellow of The Royal College of Anaesthetists in England and The College of Anaesthetists in Ireland. He is the Fellow Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine at The Royal College of Anaesthetists where he has acted as an examiner in FFICM mocks. After completing his registrar training in the Glasgow Teaching Hospitals, he was appointed as the Clinical Fellow in Cardiac Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the Leads General Infirmary.

Dr Akhtar was the Liver Transplant Lecturer at the University of London.

On completing his Senior Registrar training at the Kings College Hospital London, he was appointed as the Consultant in Cardiac Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at the Kings College Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital.

Dr Akhtar is the MBBS examiner for the University College London. He has trained numerous clinical fellows and published original research in international peer-reviewed medical journals. He is a Member Clinical Senate, NHS East of England Clinical Senate Assembly.

He has served as the Clinical Director of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine, the Mid and South Essex University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he is the current Director of the medical workforce.
