Levan Tsamalaidze
Professor in Surgery

Levan Tsamalaidze went to medical school at Tbilisi State Medical University, graduated in 2005, and had his surgical residency training at Sklifosovsky Institute of Research and Emergency Care in Moscow, Russia. He was the chief of the emergency surgery department for several years before coming back to Tbilisi to be Chair of Surgery in several major hospitals. Dr. Tsamalaidze was enrolled in a Ph.D. candidacy program at Tbilisi State Medical University and ultimately obtained his Ph.D. degree in 2023. He has been a lecturer in surgery for about 6 years now. He had the opportunity to work as a research member of the Department of General Surgery at Mayo Clinic Florida. During his 2-year time at Mayo Clinic, he completed a large number of projects and gave several podium presentations at the Southeastern Surgical Congress, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons as well as Grand Rounds at Mayo Clinic Florida. Dr. Tsamalaidze was able to write 33 manuscripts and abstracts, 2 book chapters, and was an active participant in the Safe Cholecystectomy Guideline working group. Additionally, he became a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Americas Hepatopancreatobiliary Association, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Tsamalaidze obtained his ECFMG certificate after completing the USMLE pathway (Step 1, Step 2, OET, Step 3) and has been matched with the Miami Cancer Institute in Hepatopancreatobiliary Clinical Fellowship program 2023 – 2025. Florida Board of Medicine issued a training surgery license on behalf of Dr. Tsamalaidze in November, 2023.
