Irakli Megrelidze

Associate Professor in Engineering

Irakli Megrelidze was awarded the degree of Academic Doctor of Geography in 2021 by Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

Since 2005, Irakli Megrelidze has been holding the positions of Head of the Section, Deputy Head of the Division, Head of the Division, and Deputy Head of the Agency at the National Environment Agency. From 2014 to the present, he holds the position of Deputy Head of the Hydrometeorology Department. Since 2015, he has been appointed as Advisor to the Permanent Representative of Georgia to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in the field of hydrology.

Irakli has 17 years of work experience in natural disaster management and has created maps of natural hydrometeorological hazards using GIS. He is one of the main organizers of establishing an early warning system on the Devdoraki (Kazbegi Municipality, Georgia) glacier, and has co-authored numerous scientific and practical books, including the Atlas of Natural Hazards and Risks.

Since 2020, Irakli Megrelidze has been leading the ongoing activities in the project funded by the Green Climate Fund.
