
Associate Professor for Plastic Surgery
Ertan Erel is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, in University Hospitals of North Midlands, UK. He has obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Aegean University, Izmir, Turkey. Mr Erel has completed his basic surgical training in Yorkshire and awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) degree. He has performed a year of full-time research within the field of plastic surgery (median nerve sliding) and was awarded the degree of Master of Science by the University College London. His plastic surgery training was held in West Midlands Region and awarded Intercollegiate Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, FRCS (Plast) degree in Edinburgh. His fellowships include cosmetic surgery in Istanbul and microsurgery in Gent, Izmir and Cambridge. His special interests include breast reconstruction, with particular emphasis on perforator free flap (DIEP flap) in the microsurgical reconstruction of the breast, rhinoplasty, skin cancer and cosmetic surgery.
Mr Erel has got an extensive research portfolio, having published 25 papers in peer reviewed journals and 48 presentations at both national and international meetings. He has written a chapter in a plastic surgery book called “Breast Reconstruction: Art, Science, And New Clinical Technique”, 2016. Mr Erel is actively involved in undergraduate and plastic surgery training and examines in OSCE exams and FRCS (Plast) courses. He is a reviewer for the Turkish Plastic Surgery Journal and member of British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS),BAPRASBritish Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), Turkish Society for Plastic, Reconstructive (TPRECD) and Aesthetic Surgery (TPRECD) and Turkish Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (TSAPS).
