Since the autumn 2020, New Vision Universityโs School of Law has been implementing a civic education initiative that not only promotes legal awareness among school-aged youth, but also provides law students with a transformative learning experience. The project is structured as a Street Law Clinic, where MA and doctoral students take on the role of educators, engaging directly with school communities.
Before entering classrooms, participating students undergo intensive training in teaching methodology, legal pedagogy, and youth communication strategies. This equips them with the tools to design and deliver interactive sessions on topics such as human rights, civil and criminal law, juvenile justice, labor law, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution.
The project is built on the learning-by-teaching approach, which offers law students a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of legal concepts by translating them into accessible, engaging formats for younger audiences. This process enhances their communication skills, public speaking, pedagogical awareness, and social empathy โ all essential qualities for future legal professionals.
Each semester-long course includes 10โ12 thematic workshops, delivered in an experiential format using debates, simulations, role-playing, and case-based discussions. These sessions not only benefit school students by fostering civic consciousness and legal literacy, but also allow university students to reflect deeper on their own role in society and the ethical dimensions of legal practice. Learning by teaching has been identified as one of the most effective, student-centered method for teaching.
In 2024โ2025, the initiative expanded further, with faculty and assistants conducting additional workshops focused on juvenile justice, personal data protection, and human rights, reinforcing the universityโs commitment to community engagement, social responsibility, and student-centered learning.
This project reflects New Vision Universityโs mission to Inspire to Care, integrating academic activities with meaningful societal impact and preparing law students to become thoughtful, engaged, and socially responsible professionals.
