PhD in Education Science
The educational component of the program consists of 60 ECTS, which are acquired during 2-4 semesters, depending on the individual needs of the doctoral student.
Doctorate, who is admitted to the program, but does not hold a qualification of Master of Education/Master of Education Sciences, is required to pass the course of Fundamentals of Education Science, which is a compulsory prerequisite for passing study component. The volume of the course is 10 ECTS and is compulsory for the doctorates not possessing the named qualification and elective for other doctorates.
Core study component of the program, therefore consists of 45/55 ECTS (45 ECTS in case the doctorate has relevant qualification, 55 ECTS credits for those who don’t):
Introduction to the basic research tools within the doctoral program is provided in the first or second semester through a core course “Basic Tools for Ph.D. Research” (15 ECTS), in which the method “learning by doing” is used - the student will learn to organize research, work with primary and secondary sources, and present the title and related components of the doctoral thesis. The student has the opportunity to master the “Teaching Methods and Strategies I” course (15 ECTS). The list of mandatory components of the study program also includes the course “Seminar I” (15 ECTS) (The seminar is a study component and may not be related to the dissertation). The Doctoral student completes the study component based on own needs and preferences and, in accordance with the available credits, elects “Teaching Methods and Strategies II - Professor’s Assistantship” (15 ECTS), “Seminar II” (15 ECTS) or deepens field knowledge and elects “Digitalization” (5 ECTS), “Sociology of Education” (5 ECTS) or “Education Policy” (5 ECTS). Electing the provided courses enables the PhD student to further shape own profile.
Research component - the dissertation, includes completion of several components (Guided Research I, II, and III; Colloquium I and II) which are not assessed. Defence of the thesis is the final stage of completing the doctoral program.

To complete the program, a Ph.D. student is required to have two articles published in a peer-reviewed journal indexed by the Web of Science Group Master Journal List (including the Web of Science Core Collection) and the Scimago Journal List (in Q1-Q4 category journals). One of these publications should be published by the Ph.D. student as a first author. It is permissible for one of the articles mentioned above to be accepted for publication.
