Cooperation with Zeiss

Researches in the field of intraoperative radiotherapy are conducted in cooperation with Zeiss. The research project Enhancement of Oncological Patientโ€™s Quality of Life through Intraoperative Radiotherapy, which aims to assess changes in health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in oncological patients as an outcome of intraoperative radiotherapy considering relationship with age, cancer
stage and presence of any comorbidity, is a prospective multicenter research, final data of which will be assessed by Zeiss itself. Several scientific researches are conducted within the framework of this project in several directions:
โ€ข Prevention of local recurrence of tumor through radiotherapy in abdominal and proctologic
surgery;
โ€ข Role of intraoperative radiotherapy in treatment of breast cancer;
โ€ข Specificities of anesthesia in the case of intraoperative radiotherapy;
โ€ข Early outcomes of intraoperative radiotherapy and postradiotherapy management.

The intraoperative radiotherapy in patients is conducted using the state-of-art INTRABEAM system. After surgical removal of tumor, the affected areas are irradiated using INTRABEAM special applicator directly during the surgery. Oncological indications for intraoperative radiotherapy are as follows:
โ€ข Brain Tumors
โ€ข Breast Cancer
โ€ข Gastrointestinal Tumors
โ€ข Head & Neck Tumors
โ€ข Skin Cancer
โ€ข Spinal Metastases

The research is conducted under intensive participation of the University academic staff, doctoral students and oncologists of the New Vision University Hospital. With a view to early integration into scientific activities, the students of Medical Doctor's program were also allowed to participate in the research.
